WYTHEVILLE—The Joint Industrial Development Authority presented its Special Recognition Award to MTC Transformers at the Wytheville-Wythe-Bland Chamber of Commerce annual membership dinner held at the Wytheville Meeting Center on November 16, 2009. MTC Transformers, located in Fairview Industrial Park, employs approximately 100 people and, in addition to its entrepreneurial success, the company is very active in the local community. As an example, MTC Transformers donated an
electric vehicle as the drawing prize for the Wytheville Rotary Club’s recent fund raiser to support local charities.
In existence since the mid-1980s, MTC has seen dramatic growth over the last 10 years. The company moved to its current 80,000 SF facility in 2001. In both 2008 and 2009, MTC Transformers was named to the Virginia Chamber of Commerce “Fantastic 50″ list of the fastest growing companies in the Commonwealth, the only manufacturing company on the list in 2009. Additionally, the company was selected last year to represent the western portion of the state as a finalist for Virginia Business’s Small Business Success Story of the Year. During the current year, members of the MTC Transformers team spun off Evantran LLC, marketer of a new technology, Plugless Power™, that will provide convenient, hands-free charging for electric vehicles. The Joint IDA will present its Industry Tenure Awards (in five year intervals) for Wythe County industries at a luncheon to be held in January 2010 at the Wytheville Meeting Center.
