The Joint IDA is proud of the work being done in our community to advance education in the manufacturing industry and to shine a light on vibrant career paths. Congratulations to Wythe County Technology Center WCTC, Wytheville Community College, and the Wytheville-Wythe-Bland Chamber of Commerce for shepherding the award-winning Manufacturing Excellence program!
The Joint Industrial Development Authority held its annual Tenure Awards luncheon to celebrate Wythe County industries on April 27, 2023, at the Wytheville Meeting Center. This year eight different businesses were awarded, ranging in operation time from 20 years to 65 years. Some awardees are global brands while others are distinctively homegrown. Local leaders and business service partners celebrated the following companies: 20 Years – Pepsi Beverages Company, Premier Building Solutions; 30 Years – Klöckner Pentaplast, Southern Pharmacy Services; 35 Years – Creative Glass, Inc.; 40 Years – Boxley Ready Mix; 50 Years – Wabtec: Longwood Elastomers; and 65 Years – Farmers Milling. The Joint IDA Board would like to thank each of these companies for doing business in Wythe County and for their commitment to our communities.
This morning the Wythe Manufacturing Roundtable toured programs at Wytheville Community College. Roland Hall, Director of Workforce Development, highlighted career and technical training opportunities in machine technology, industrial maintenance, metrology, welding, and commercial truck driving designed to support our manufacturers. WCC also offers customized programs to train and up-skill employees to meet business needs.
